Thota Vaikuntam draws inspiration from rural South India, focusing on Telangana women. His childhood fascination with male artists impersonating female characters in village theatre groups shaped his artistic perspective. Vaikuntam captures the vibrancy of his village’s women, creating art that initially remained private due to its provocative nature. His work, marked by controlled lines and primary colors, exudes strength.
Currently residing and working in Hyderabad, Vaikuntam completed his Diploma in Painting at the College of Fine Arts and Architecture, Hyderabad in 1970, followed by another in painting and printmaking from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda, in 1972.
